SurgaflexTM
Is the silver in SurgaflexTM harmful to healthy cells?
No. Because of the conformal nature of SurgaflexTM, it contains a very low amount of silver that is still effective on most types of common microbes.2, 3
The ultrathin form factor of SurgaflexTM is actually the key. It allows SurgaflexTM to conform to the wound bed and brings the matrix functionality to the “nooks and crannies” of the wound. Comparatively bulky macro-scale matrices sit well above the wound bed and force the granulation cells to come to them.
SurgaflexTM is so thin compared to other matrices. How is it so effective?
Is SurgaflexTM active against resistant microorganisms such as MRSA or VRE?
SurgaflexTM has been demonstrated in vitro to be effective against a number of micro organisms including:3
- Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
- Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE)
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Escherichia coli
- Candida tropicalis
- Candida albicans
Microlyte® Matrix
What do I cover Microlyte® Matrix with after I apply it to the wound?
Microlyte® Matrix should be covered with a non-adherent dressing and any other dressings needed to maintain a moist wound environment. Change the cover dressing as needed to maintain a moist wound environment or when Microlyte® Matrix is reapplied.
Can I cut Microlyte® Matrix?
Absolutely. Microlyte® Matrix should be cut to size slightly larger than the wound. Multiple pieces may be used to cover the wound bed and the wound margin.
What if the wound is dry?
We recommend that a dry wound be moistened with sterile saline after routine debridement and prior to application of Microlyte® Matrix
How often do I need to reapply Microlyte® Matrix?
Reapply Microlyte® Matrix depending on the wound and the healing progression, or when clinically indicated. To reapply, carefully remove the cover dressing(s). Gently irrigate wound with sterile saline to remove necrotic tissue. It is not necessary to remove any residual Microlyte® Matrix observed during cover dressing changes.
Does Microlyte® Matrix have a billable product code?
Microlyte® Matrix is categorized by CMS as a synthetic skin substitute and has an assigned billing code of A2005.10, 11, 12 It may be possible to bill for and receive reimbursement for use depending on each situation. Please contact us for specific billing related questions.
